Chris is with ShelterBox USA. He tells Speak Out, “As a global disaster relief organization, we are all too aware that overpopulation, industrialization and, subsequent climate change, are contributing factors to future disasters. This plays a pivotal role in our planning and operations as we expect larger and more frequent events. To have impactful materials that highlight the gravity of these contributing circumstances, published from outside of our organization’s spectrum, will reinforce the obvious connection of humans-to-nature.
Were we to receive these materials, they would be used to educate our organization from the top down, starting with our board of directors, staff and eventually disseminated to our volunteer network (approx 500 globally). Our volunteers regularly seek speaking and engagement opportunities where proper knowledge is critical to our awareness campaign. Additionally, we have been working on educational opportunities at large North American events like music festivals and sporting events where we interface directly with the attendees. The idea is not to just arbitrarily hand out books but rather to use them as educational tools for the folks who are dedicated to raising awareness and spreading the information organically.”
There are many ways to participate! Together, we can raise awareness and bring about change.
