Fabian’s proposal:
“We work with indigenous communities throughout the Philippines. We are trying to teach them the importance of climate change and adaption through environmentally sustainable agricultural processes and systems. We have been in the Philippines working with these communities for over 2 years now. We initially teach these communities about climate change (as they usually do not understand what is happening and why their lands are not as fruitful as they once were) through the use of comic strips we have had professionally created (to help with language barriers), power point slides and Filipino teachers. At this stage we are working with 5000 indigenous families (members of the Bugkalot tribe) in the province of Aurora of the Philippines, and these books would greatly assist in showing what is occurring world wide and will give us the opportunity to impart on these people that they are the grass roots and have the power to change themselves. It is hard to demonstrate what is occurring worldwide due to the limitations of internet connectivity in these areas.
These books would form part of our foundations of teaching. We currently have two teams of 4 traveling throughout the Philippines teaching about climate change and demonstrating to the indigenous communities our project and how we can assist them. We will continually use pictures (with permission) on our social media accounts. I believe if I had enough books (perhaps between 4-8) to send with our team and to keep with us on our project site.”
There are many ways to participate! Together, we can raise awareness and bring about change.
