Impact Narrative

Justin’s plan for promoting OVER:

“I am the instructor for the University of Miami’s lone population-focused course, which I teach concurrently for three different units: “Population & Environment” for the Environmental Studies Program, “Geography of Population and Development” for my Geography Department, and “Population & Society” for our Sociology Department. The course typically enroll a mix of ~25 students from throughout the natural and social science disciplines and the humanities. I am requesting 6 copies of this wonderful book to loan to student teams for class projects on Pop-Env issues, which I hope will turn into StoryMaps. StoryMaps, an alternative to the traditional research paper, are online map-based research projects that visually compile a mix of text, images, and video to tell a story about the history or current state-of-affairs of some phenomenon, and are inherently sharable via all social media platforms, thus becoming a “living project.” I could probably use your web site’s electronic version of the book for the same purpose, but I wonder whether the physical, tangible beauty of the printed copies would have a bigger impact on my students who otherwise consume all media by the pixel. Either way, thank you for this wonderful inspirational resource and all of the promotion of Pop-Env issues that accompanies it.”
