Marco’s OVER proposal:
“I run a class of around 200 first year students called “The Urban Age”. Most of the students will major in urban planning or environment undergraduate degrees, although we aim to broaden the appeal of the course to those in engineering, and property construction for example.
Obviously the themes of this book are highly applicable to “The Urban Age”.
Last year I ran a competition that was associated with an assessment for the course. Students had to take photos of what “The Urban Age” represented for them and tweet with the #HUSO2341 (the course code). We then judged the best photos and gave the students a small prize for the best photo. I would offer 3 of the (OVER) books in 2015 and 2016 each as a prize and ask them to tweet their photos to both #HUSO2341, #SpeakOut and #population. The students would judge the best photos by favouriting their photos.
The environment and planning programs at RMIT are among the largest in Australia. RMIT is the largest University in Australia with more than 80,000 students. Using the books in this way would be a crucial place to raise awareness of these issues among individuals who are going to be future decision makers. In addition, the observational and highly photographic style of the book fits with the style and the aims of the course.”
There are many ways to participate! Together, we can raise awareness and bring about change.
