Impact Narrative

Mark is a biology teacher in a large comprehensive upper school in Ashdod’ Israel.

His plan for raising awareness about OVER includes:

“This year we have founded a green students council in order to raise awareness of green isues in the school. The year we concentrated on the issue of litter and plastic pollution of Ashdods coastline and the students ( 11th grade) ran events for 7th graders four times on the beach while all the time talking about the importance of clean seas.

After the pesach holidays we will be acting to increase the awareness of the need for recycling in the school and will start to form plans for next year’s activities in association with the students council. During the next school year it is my intention to raise the issue of the place of environmental isuues in the entire school curriculum with the school managenent and to form a commitee to plan how to use add environmental issues to the curriculum of every subject in the school. I would very much like to be able to use copies of the books both with the Green students council and as a resource for working with teachers in the school.

The work with the students council and the staff body will be recorded in picture and video and presented to the annual meeting of Israeli Biology teachers at the end of the next school year in a talk which will emphasize the importance of teaching biology in the upper school with an emphasis on our impacts on the planet and the placing of the environmental impact of humankind at the center of each schools policy. Copies of the book will help with these aims – they will be used in the school council with the school management body and as a resource in a meeting of the entire school teaching staff.”
