Michael’s proposal for Speak Out and OVER:
“I aim to bring greater awareness to the student community and beyond through publicising the book as much as possible through Universitat de Barcelona. As an economics masters student, the great humanitarian concerns depicted throughout the wonderful book have huge implications for my chosen discipline. I believe it is something the discipline (Economics) chooses to ignore.
More than this, I believe the discipline is partly (and no small part) responsible for the exponential growth of these problems. Almost all economic theory set in most major education curriculums leads one to believe that increased consumption is good. Economists more and more appear to be forgetting the problem that is at the heart of their discipline; that of finite resources.
I wish to be able to distribute your book through the University, especially the economics department, in order to remind/inform people of the terrible implications of both national policies and individual decisions that are “good for the economy”.
The university holds several seminars per week where I hope to be showing the book and holding as many open discussions as possible. I believe many people need to be shocked into thinking about the implications of our materialistic natures; something your book does wonderfully. Through relationships with lecturers at the University also I believe the books will have a great chance to be viewed after lectures by thousands of different students as many staff working here also feel very strongly about the idea.”
There are many ways to participate! Together, we can raise awareness and bring about change.
