Shana’s proposal for OVER and Speak Out:
“Rancho Esperanza works within local communities to create and support social and environmental programs, while providing an eco-hostel destination for volunteers and guests alike. We are located in the rural community of Jiquilillo, Nicaragua, where the average family has 6 children and most live in absolute poverty. We engage the local youth in weekly beach cleanups, and target adolescent local females with school scholarships and extra-curricular activities to keep them in school, and without baby, for as long as possible.
In our eco-hostel, we receive guests from around the world and advocate integration into the local community as much as possible. If we add copies of Overdevelopment, Overpopulation, Overshoot into our 500+ book library for guests from Argentina to Angola to read and ponder during their travels through the developing world, this book, and more importantly the issues contained therein, can be widely discussed with fellow travelers and local communities.
We have already promoted the book on our Facebook page, and will happily recommend it to all guest perusing our library, as well as family and friends. You can rest assured that this book will pass through many, many good hands.”
There are many ways to participate! Together, we can raise awareness and bring about change.
