Christina McPhail

Impact Narrative

Christina is very active with local groups.  Here is her plan for promoting OVER:

“Here in Canberra – the capital city of Australia we have a very active citizenry, including many participating volunteers with our 350.org branch. Our city is blessed with a largely progressive culture and a high proportion of change makers working to make the world a better place, striving for environmental sustainability and social justice. We recently formed a Canberra Transition Town initiative to connect the many groups doing good things in the region. You can check out all the different activities we have going on in the mind map here: https://www.transitionnetwork.org/initiatives/canberra-transition-town

I stumbled across the Overshoot book a while back through Grist or Treehugger I believe and fell in love. I have never seen the sustainability story so beautifully put. I think having copies of the book would really help us further engage with citizens of Canberra (and maybe a few federal politicians while we’re at it). If there is scope for 5 books that would be even better, I would like to see at least a copy for The Conservation Council (the hub for NGOs in the area), the Canberra Environment Centre (who hosts sustainable living workshops and events), SEE-Change (a grassroots initiative focusing around local action for social, environmental and economic change) and 350 (the Canberra branch of the wider global 350 movement to address climate change and preserve a liveable planet). The four groups I have just named are active with events and presentations to the wider population and would be able to use your book for our campaigns and event days to further explain the risks and impacts of overdevelopment, overpopulation and overshoot. While a fifth book would be a roving resource to be shared among the other groups in Canberra when needed.

Thank you for producing such a magnificent piece of art that tells the story of our time in such a clear and moving way.
