Kenza’s proposal for OVER:
“I am a University professor here in Mexico. I teach several courses on ethics (including a large section on respect for nature – respect for society) , the petroleum industry and the environment, and international relations. I hold a BA from Cornell University (class of 1987) and a PhD from Columbia University in Political Science (1995) and I have been an advocate for the respect to nature ever since I started teaching. I also worked many years with the International Committee of the Red Cross where I witnessed first hand how war damages not only human life, but all life (remnants of war are not just mines, but also soil contamination, tons and tons of metallic and contaminated garbage and more); and where I have seen how resources (especially water) have become a source of conflict. (I worked many years in West And East Africa and the Middle East).
To be succinct, I would only need one or two books that would be placed at the library at the University (Instituto Tecnológico San Miguelense). I know students would be most interested. At the end of a class I recently taught, I asked the students what they felt they may have learned. One told me “to be conscious” and that was all I needed to hear.
If you send me two books and you would rather they do not be both in the same place, there are other options to place it: the local public library, a school library and more options that may be adequate to raise awareness especially among the young. The section of the population who most needs to wake up.”
There are many ways to participate! Together, we can raise awareness and bring about change.
