Lydia’s proposal for OVER and Speak Out:
“I am the executive artistic director of Mo`olelo Performing Arts Company in San Diego. Mo’olelo is a socially-conscious, community-focused theater company that uses live theater to bring awareness to social issues, provide a voice for diverse and underrepresented populations and generate dialogue among local communities. We are a “green” theatre and as such value the environment. In this light I would like to have a playwriting competition that uses your book as the theme and inspiration for playwrights to submit plays that address overpopulation and overdevelopment as a way to start dialogue. We would ask playwrights to view the digital online version and write a play in response to a specific image. The competition would culminate in a festival of performances of the winning plays. The festival would include an exhibit of the in our gallery space and be accompanied by panels and talkbacks. Our company works in partnership with other local cross-sector organizations and as such would seek to find community partners to help spread awareness. We would share hard copies of your book with community leaders, organizations and students in our Three Part Arts and other programs. We could offer the book as a raffle prize to patrons who attend any of our productions next season. I look forward to your response. Thank you.”
There are many ways to participate! Together, we can raise awareness and bring about change.
