Sandra’s proposal for OVER:
“We have students from all over sub Saharan Africa studying at our college. The wildlife college is based in Limpopo region of South Africa and the campus is based in a contractual park of Kruger National Park and part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area. Our students are from and work in protected areas across Africa and we train skills to upscale our students to mid-management level . Our training is designed to meet needs and demands of protected areas including needs of rural communities living in buffer zones adjacent to protected areas. We train on site as well as off site. See more detail on our website. We have a Resource Centre at the college campus and your book, Over development, Overpopulation, Overshoot encompasses many of the issues discussed in the classroom e..g. population growth and impact and resource loss and resilience building. The book would be a wonderful asset to our college and students. We publish a newsletter called ‘The Bateleur’ for our media to reach a vast variety of high profile partners and donors across SADC in the field of environmental and conservation science as well as social science. We can make mention of Global Population Speak Out, the donation of the books to our Wildlife College and its application in our training programmes in ‘The Bateleur’. We will house the donated copies in the Wildlife College Resource Centre and utilise the books when training our SADC (Southern African Development Community) students for the various topic relevant modules taught. We also have an out reach programme (targeting unemployed youth), Eco-school programme and book club with the adjacent rural villages to the Wildlife College and we will certainly be able to utilise the copies as part of these environmental education programmes too.”
There are many ways to participate! Together, we can raise awareness and bring about change.
