Sarah’s proposal to Speak Out:
“I produce a radio show for a local community radio station, and post transcripts and references to a companion blog, so a show or more likely series of shows centered around this book are the first way I would share this book. (theworldaroundusradio.blogspot.com)
I also teach at a small college and am active in our honors course development. Sharing these books with my students seems like a really powerful way to get these issues discussed on our campus–particularly since we are a maritime college and our students are not the typical “liberal elite” college kid (www.mainemaritimeacademy.edu)
Our local library (Witherle Memorial Library) is a satellite host for the Camden Conference, hosting a series of discussion groups leading up to the conference itself. Next year the Camden Conference (an international forum on various global issues https://www.camdenconference.org/) is focusing on Africa. Many of these population vs. consumption debates pit the developing world against our comfortable western lifestyles. Imagery found in this book would be an excellent starting point for discussions on this topic.”
There are many ways to participate! Together, we can raise awareness and bring about change.
